Crowns and Bridges
Short answer: A crown covers a tooth that is too broken or too weakened to hold a filling — often after a root canal. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth either side. Both are made from digital scans rather than impression putty, so there is no tray of material to hold in your mouth.
When a crown is the right answer
A filling replaces missing tooth material. A crown replaces the outside of the tooth entirely, holding what remains together.
It is usually the answer when there is not enough sound tooth left to hold a filling reliably, when a tooth has cracked, or after root canal treatment, because a treated tooth is more brittle than a living one.

What a bridge does, and what it costs you
A bridge spans a gap by anchoring to the teeth on either side. It is fixed, it is quicker than an implant, and it costs less.
The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: the teeth either side are cut down to hold it, permanently, even if they were perfectly healthy. If those teeth already need crowns, a bridge solves several problems at once and is excellent value. If they are untouched, that is a genuine cost.

What a crown costs, and crown versus extraction
Crowns are deliberately absent from our published price list. The figure depends on which tooth, what is left of it, whether a root canal or a post is needed first, and what the crown is made from — and a single "from" price across all of that would mislead rather than help. Ask on WhatsApp and you get a range with the reasoning attached.
What moves it:
- How much tooth remains. A crown on a well-preserved tooth is simpler than one on a tooth rebuilt from very little.
- Whether the nerve is involved. A root canal beforehand is separate work.
- The material. A crown made to fit your bite in a dental laboratory is not the same product at two prices.
- How many. A bridge spanning a gap involves the teeth either side as well.
Is it cheaper to pull the tooth or crown it?
On the day, pulling. Over any longer horizon, usually not — because the gap then wants filling with an implant, a bridge or a denture, all of which cost more than the crown would have, and because the teeth either side start moving in the meantime.
The honest exception: a tooth with too little structure left, or with a vertical root fracture, cannot be reliably crowned. Then extraction is not the cheap option, it is the only one, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a crown that fails.

Well-made crowns commonly last many years, and what usually fails is not the crown but the tooth or gum underneath it — which is why the cleaning and check-up interval matters more after a crown, not less.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Usually. A root-treated tooth is more brittle and a crown protects it from fracturing. It is discussed as part of the treatment plan.
Does a bridge damage the teeth either side?
It permanently reduces them, because they have to be shaped to hold the bridge. That is the main hidden cost. If those teeth already need crowns it matters far less.
